Melrose Built is a high-performing commercial construction company based in Brisbane, known for delivering precision-built projects and fostering a values-led culture. As we continue to scale, we are seeking an experienced and hands-on Finance Manager to lead our finance function and ensure strong financial stewardship across the business.

Reporting directly to the Operations Manager and Director, this role plays a critical part in shaping the financial operations of the company, ensuring compliance, driving improvements in systems and processes, and providing commercial insights that inform strategic decision-making. This is a hands-on role, well-suited to a candidate who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is ready to evolve with the growth of the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, month-end, and year-end processes
  • Ensure compliance with QBCC (critical), ATO, QRO, and other statutory bodies
  • Manage and optimise financial systems, including Jobpac and OCR tools
  • Manage inter-company transactions and loan arrangements, including reconciliation and reporting
  • Deliver accurate and timely management reporting (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow, Forecasts), with coordination of financial reporting to external providers as required
  • Oversee accounts payable, receivable, and payroll (with support from local and offshore staff)
  • Coordinate and manage external audits, including audit preparation, accounting standards compliance, and stakeholder liaison — balancing day-to-day work with audit requirements
  • Provide financial analysis and commercial insights to support project delivery and operational decisions
  • Mentor and lead the finance team to ensure clarity of roles, ongoing capability uplift, and team performance
  • Drive continuous improvement across financial controls, systems, and processes
  • Liaise with external accountants, auditors, and advisors

About You

  • CA or CPA qualified (ideal)
  • Minimum 7 years in a senior finance role, preferably in construction
  • Strong QBCC compliance experience with an understanding of minimum financial requirements and reporting obligations
  • Advanced proficiency with Excel, including financial modelling and data analysis
  • Experienced in using Jobpac (Highly Desirable) or similar construction ERP systems, including payroll functionality
  • Strong working knowledge of Australian compliance and regulatory obligations
  • Proven ability to manage a team and build internal capability
  • Commercially astute with the ability to communicate complex financial matters simply and clearly
  • Confident navigating audits and applying accounting standards in a growing business
  • Demonstrated ability to work hands-on while influencing senior stakeholders
  • High attention to detail, reliable under pressure, and effective at juggling competing priorities
  • Aligned to Melrose Built’s core values: care, dependability, and excellence
